Video #2 The Departure

This picture from last nights going away party @ my place for The Guys Night Out Entourage...Good Times
Its now 48h before I fly to Bejing China then to Seoul South Korea & I haven't started packing anything yet...
The freak out begins :O

I also just learned that MILLIONS of people will be flying into the Bejing China airport on the SAME day as me because it is Chinese New Year Celebration....unbelievable.

Crowds freak me out and I was already paranoid of the massive population of Asian cities, I can just imagine what that airport will be like. Once again, the "freak out" begins...

I'd like YOUR input on what I should be filming / documenting during this journey...things / places you would like to see? Please comment below...

Next video post will be LIVE from Asia :D (if I can get everything organized and packed in time that is...)

Video #1 Travel Documentary "Quinton's Quest, An Asian Adventure"

Ok, so here is the game plan, after getting bored of the same ol same ol life routine in North America, I recently decided to fly around the world from Vancouver to go and live in Asia for a while.

I only booked a 1 way ticket, so I really have no idea how long I will be gone for...or really were I will be traveling.

Basically Seoul South Korea, Tokyo Japan,Bejing China, and Surfing in Bali Indo is on my list of things to see & do.

(Along with many other things I will share in future videos)

My goal is to document & video the entire tip with weekly videos to update & post on my Utube, Twitter, Facebook and my video blog, http://www.QuintonCarlin.com

Feel free to comment & follow my updates via Twitter / Facebook because if you don't...who will ;) ?

Until the next video session...

Cheers,

Quinton

Kickin it in Korea

I've been researching videos on Korea before I leave...pretty interesting (and funny) stuff, I must say:
"Kimchi Kimchi it is good for you & me" Hahah

I found this guys video blog, a film student that went to Teach English in Korea and documented it all on his blog. Hes' got some sweet videos, and hilarious commentary. Check out his blog: http://www.youdontsmellbad.com and video @

By the way, a friend of mine said he wants to come and teach English aswell in the next couple months and if anyone else is interested in teaching, traveling or any of the above shenanigans, lemme know! Its super easy to get hooked up with schools, travel and other opportunities there...here is a video about what life in Asia looks like.

I will keep you posted on how it goes when I finally get there..

1/11/11 @ 11:11pm "Imagine"

January 01 11, 2011, 11:11pm.

Damn, that's a lot of ones huh?!

And we will never see that date again.

I feel that this is a year that we should all strive to be "one".

No matter what age, race, religion, or political party one subscribes to, we are all connected as one universal community.

This message makes me think of one of my favorite songs ever, John Lennon's Imagine

"You may say I am dreamer, but I am not the only one, I hope that some day you will join us, and the world will live as one"

"Well Hello There...Happy New Year to you too ;)"

Its gonna be a great year...

One Love XO,

Get Hit & Get Back Up...Agian & Again

YOU ARE POWERFUL BEYOND MEASURE

"Let me tell you something you already know;
The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life.

But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody.

Cowards do that and that ain't you.

You're better than that!"- Rocky Balboa From "Rocky" Movie.

I loved that movie as a kid and I still love that quote.

"Overcoming Adversity", in my opinion is the most important virtue for humans to develop to be successful in this game of life...to overcome the ups and downs is crucial for a well balanced existence.

Trust me, I, (like you,) have been knocked out & beat down with a ton of bullshit that only a small fraction of the population has had to go trough or could even fathom, but as the saying says, what ever doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger. And from my personal experience, I really do believe that's true...

ie: imagine going through a 5 year court custody case spending thousand's of $ to fight for your only child that you love more than anything. Not fun.

Or how about getting threatened, robbed & jailed in Morocco and have to buy your way out! That experience was SO incredibly scary & stressful!

Or how about building a business for almost 3 years and have the founders change the entire business model that leaves you high and dry without an income? Devastating.

Imagine being in Thailand after a a year of backpacking overseas traveling and when you get to the airport ready to fly home you realize that somehow your wallet, passort and tickets have been stolen with only 2h before your flight departs and now your stranded in a 3rd world country with no ID, no money, no friends or family and your gonna miss your return flight and you can not even prove to customs that you are Canadian at the embassy because you have no ID!!

I seriously thought I was gonna be stranded in Asia forever & be left alone on the streets.

One of the worst feelings was coming home late one night and finding that my place was broken into and all my personal possessions were gone. That was incredibly violating.

And I am sure we have all at one point told someone that we 'love them' and then are heartbroken not hear the same reply in return, but to hear that they love you too, but, 'just as a friend'.

These are all real life experiences I have faced and had to deal with & figure out how to overcome them.

The ironic reality is that I do not regret experiencing any of them because they have all been a piece of the puzzle to get to me where & who I am today.

Its funny because I was talking to my dad yesterday and just telling him what I went through this past week in getting ready for my next 6 month trip to Asia that I leave for in 2 weeks and he was like 'son, in the past 5 days you've had to deal with more drama & stress than your mother & I have had in years', and that kinda put things in an interesting perspective for me.

I guess what I am honestly most proud of is that each of these knock out punches (and there have been many many more that I can not post here) has only made me a stronger and more persistence individual that is confident in my ability to overcome ANY adversity that can come my way...as I am sure you have the same experience as well.

So when bad shit happens, just learn and grow from it & move on.

Out with the old & in with the new & remember that there is always a method and a meaning to the madness that happens, I am a BIG believer that everything happens for a specific reason.

Life is too short to let drama queens (or kings) hold you back from your happiness :-)

As my man Snoop says, "There will be Ups & Downs in this Game of Life"

Live well my friends & if you like this post, please Re-post http://www.QuintonCarlin.com on your Facebook wall or Re-tweet it to pass it on. I think its a powerful message people deserve to get reminded of.

Thanks for reading I appreciate it.

Onward & Upward

Quinton

BTW, I am only 2 weeks away from my 6 month Asian Adventure & I will be posting regularly here on my Blog and I'll be shooting ALOT of live video of the cities, culture and other random shenanigans that I seem to get myself into while overseas as I have been known to in the past...

Peace.

Here is a video of me hitting the craziest shot I have ever hit during a practice of the HS team I coach. This was my first attempt. FYI Lakers, you can sign my skills for 5 million / year...I'll replace Kobe, hes overrated anyway ;-)

"To Love:"

"To love and be rejected;

To spend every effort to help and be turned down;

To be in a situation of having to compete to be heard and be silent;

To have the answers and not be able to convey them;

To lose, knowing you can win, rather than being political;

To go to the end of the line when you were there first;

To tell the truth and it be made a lie;

To try to be saintly and be made out to be a devil;

To be on the inside and to be cast outside;

To be with many and to know you are really alone;

To give yourself unreservedly to others and be a victim of their envy;

To dedicate your life to a purpose and that purpose turn against you;

To be innocent and be accused;

To be stripped of all authority, earthly power, and position and be nothing;

...is to have one’s heart lacerated with humility to the greatest depth

and receive at the greatest heights God’s blessing of...walking Jesus’ path;

...To Love."

Finding this poem today made me reflect on the last 7 years, from being a son to my father, to having a son to father.

I dedicate this poem to my son Ethan. I can only hope that one day you will know, learn & live the TRUTH...

Love, your Dad,

Quinton Carlin
